BB Battles but Goes Down to Safin
BB fought hard for over 4 hours on Rod Laver Arena Monday night in Melbourne...Unfortunately he could not maintain his one-set leads after the 1st and 3rd sets and went down 57 76 36 63 64 to Marat Safin.

Safin had this to say about Becker:

"I knew he beat Agassi and he has a lot of respect from the players, he's a very tough opponent. I think we had a great match but I think I had the more experience and I hit some great shots."

BB is paired up with Jaime Murray, younger brother of Andy Murray, in the doubles.

Excellent showing, Benjamin. To threaten and aggravate such a powerful player as Safin means that you are definitely close to top players' level, meaning you are topnotch too. I think it is a bit unfortunate that you were given such a tough draw in first round. And enough has not been written about your impressive showing against Safin. You could well have beaten him! Keep the great play up! -An American fan
