New Becker advances to main draw at the 2006 GERRY WEBER OPEN
"Game, set and match" - if you hear this phrase in a grass court tennis match, you would certainly think of the name Becker. Such was the case at the GERRY WEBER OPEN 2006. Not for Boris, however, but for Benjamin. The new Becker booked his ticket to the main field courtesy of a strong forehand and a good service.

Becker had hopes to face three-time defending champion Roger Federer in the first round. "That would be a dream, but my chances would not be the best," he said. But now he has to play versus Tomas Berdych.

In the other qualification finals, Bopanna won a tie-break heartbreaker over Denmark´s Kristian Pless 7:6(5), 7:6(3). Bopanna's next opponent is supposed to be his last at the GERRY WEBER OPEN 2006: Roger Federer. George Bastl - the man who eliminated Pete Sampras in his final Wimbledon appearance in 2002 - defeated USA´s Eric Nunez 7:6(9), 6:4. Marco Chiudinelli has started a mini-winning streak since his return from injury. He won two tournament in Kuwait and made the main draw in Halle after defeating Germany´s Andreas Beck 6:4, 7:6(6) in the qualification final. June 2, 06
